Hi ,
There is no single machine learning formula “to rule them all."
Different algorithms have different strengths and weaknesses. And the best algorithm in any situation will depend on the task at hand and the domain where it's being performed.
This is the "no free lunch" theorem.
For much the same reasons, there also doesn't exist a single data scientist "to rule them all."
Here's the thing...
Even though one algorithm can't rule them all, whenever one is needed, one will be chosen - just maybe not the same one each time.
And when an organisation needs to hire a data scientist, eventually one will be chosen, too - but each
organisation will hire a different one.
No one can be everything, everywhere, all at once.
So, why try to be?
Better to focus on becoming something, somewhere, when it matters.
But how do you become something, somewhere, when it matters? Well, that's a topic for another day.
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
