Hi ,
The telescope didn't discover the Galilean moons of Jupiter;
The electrometer didn't discover radium;
The microscope didn't discover the existence of microorganisms;
The typewriter didn't create Hercules Poirot; and
The
guitar didn't write Shake It Off.
Galileo Galilei did discover the Galilean moons of Jupiter;
Marie and Pierre Curie did discover radium;
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek did discover the existence of microorganisms;
Agatha Christie did create Hercules Poirot; and
Taylor Swift did write Shake It Off.
However, all these discoveries or creations were enabled by the technologies listed above.
AI is a revolutionary technology, but like every other technology that has existed throughout history, it is only capable of enabling humans to draw conclusions and make discoveries. It is not capable of drawing those
conclusions or making those discoveries itself.
This is worth remembering whenever you're using generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT.
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
