Hi ,
According to superstition, actors must never say "Macbeth" inside a theatre (unless called for in a script), lest disaster befall the play they are performing.
Instead, actors use euphemisms, such as "The Scottish Play", "The Bard's Play" and "MacB".
In data science,
there are also terms that will bring misfortune to your endeavours. Try saying "XGBoost", "Autoencoder" or "SMOTE" to an executive and you'll see exactly what I mean.
Here's the thing...
Although it would be great if every senior manager understood data science, the reality is most of them don't. And that's OK.
It's not the job of senior management to be
data science experts. That's your job.
Their job is to run the business.
Senior management doesn’t
have the time to learn data science, so data science must come to them.
The data scientists who realise this and speak to senior management in their own language are the ones who create the most value.
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
