Hi ,
Nobody needs a luxury car, a $100k watch or a can of soft drink.
Yet, big companies, like Mercedes, Rolex and Coke, invest massive amounts in marketing each year to convince people they want them.
For small businesses without the budget to "create" a market, though, the best strategy is usually to identify a problem or need and focus on addressing that instead.
You don't have to create a market if you're selling something people need.
Here's the thing...
Every data scientist is a single-person business, albeit most with just a single
client - their employer.
Many people get into data science because they want to create cutting-edge models, such as deep neural networks.
But if your client doesn't need a cutting-edge solution, as a solo business, you're going to find it very hard to convince them they want one.
It's much easier to focus on identifying their needs and developing models to meet them.
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
