Hi ,
ChatGPT is not the only generative-AI chatbot in the market. In fact, there are a number of equivalent tools.
Yet, if asked a random person to name a generative-AI chatbot,
chances are they would name ChatGPT.
Not because ChatGPT is necessarily the best generative-AI chatbot on the market, but because it got there first.
Getting there first made ChatGPT a household name and Google Bard an "also ran".
Here's the thing...
On Monday, I wrote about the value of iteration - get your work out into the world, even if it's sub-optimal, then iterate until it becomes something better.
Yet, to do so creates the very real prospect of someone stealing your work.
But there's also a risk associated with not sharing your work with the world fast enough.
If a problem is important enough to want to solve,
chances are lots of people are already trying to do so. Thinking otherwise would be naive.
At the time of ChatGPT's release, multiple tech companies were also working on their own generative-AI chatbots - some of which were, possibly, better.
But most people will
never know about them, because once OpenAI solved their problems using ChatGPT, they stopped looking further for a solution.
Sometimes, the risk of not sharing your work with the world outweighs the risk of doing so.
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
