Politicians are obsessed with prediction.
It sometimes seems like politicians can't even decide what to have for breakfast without running a poll.
And this approach works fine if the polls tell them what they want to hear. But what if they say something else?
Prediction tells you nothing about causation, so if you don't like it, then you're stuck.
Here's the thing...
Most data scientists also focus on prediction, but predictive modelling can only get you so far.
If you want to know the future, then prediction is useful, but if you want
to change the world, then understanding causation is what you need.
