Hi ,
When I was first learning to code, one of my favourite resources was GitHub.
Not knowing any software developers, personally, back then, GitHub became my code mentor. It showed
me what professionally written code looked like, and by studying this code, I became a better programmer myself.
I have never copied any GitHub code verbatim without reference, yet without the GitHub programmers who generously shared their code with the world, I wouldn't be able to write the code I can today.
With that in mind, if I were to write an entirely new piece of code today, would that code belong to me, or should my GitHub mentors have a claim over the IP?
Hit reply and let me know what you think.
More to follow
soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
