Hi ,
Experience has value - which we quantify all the time.
It's the difference between the salary of a seasoned veteran of a profession and a newly minted
graduate.
This premium arises because experience provides context for a role, over and above anything that can be taught in a university classroom.
Yet, to say that a university degree is worthless would be incorrect.
Although students may graduate with only limited experience in their chosen field, their training provides them with a broad knowledge base that will help them deal with unfamiliar situations for many years to come.
People often compare generative AI chatbots, like ChatGPT, to recent university graduates because
both have extensive training but lack the relevant experience needed to put it in context.
So, it only stands to reason that the next stage in the evolution of genAI chatbots will be to incorporate that experience, increasing the value of AI dramatically.
This
is exactly what's happening now with retrieval augmented generation (or RAG).
I recently had the opportunity to talk to Graphlit CEO Kirk Marple about how RAG can be used to build better AI apps. You can listen to our entire conversation here: Episode 41:
Building Better AI Apps with Knowledge Graphs and RAG
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
