Hi ,
Guess the name of the movie:
"A young girl kills once and then teams up with three others to kill again."

Did you get it?
The answer is The Wizard of Oz, but it could
just as easily be an episode of The Walking Dead.
Without context, there's no way to know.
The same thing is true for data science.
As Kaggle
competitions prove, it's possible to build highly accurate models without understanding context.
But Kaggle competitions aren't real life.
In business, the goal of data science isn't to build the most accurate models, but to help stakeholders make the best
decisions.
And the only way you can do that is through business understanding.
Without business understanding, data science produces "zombie projects" - technically impressive but dead on arrival.
Understanding what your stakeholders really care about is the key to a data science career that's a fairy tale and not something out of a horror film.
Talk again soon,
Dr Genevieve Hayes.
p.s. Learning to identify high-impact business problems is the first step in becoming a data scientist that executives value and reward.
This is something I teach as part of the Data Science Impact Accelerator coaching program.
